We have a great career opportunity for an EPC Director in an international leading renewable energy company with a representative office in Kyiv.
Our Partner initiates, plans and builds wind and solar projects worldwide. The Company is an independent power producer (IPP) that executes large-scale international projects as a general contractor and takes over technical and commercial management as an asset manager. In addition, our Partner has a technological competence and develops AI solutions for renewable energies.
We are currently looking for a skilled specialist who will lead the full EPC delivery function of the Company's utility-scale renewable energy projects in Ukraine, starting with a 120 MW wind power plant financed by international financial institutions and development finance institutions.
The EPC Director will be responsible for organizing, managing and controlling project execution through subcontractors and specialized service providers. The role requires strong leadership of subcontractor packages, interface management, HSE, quality, schedule, budget, reporting, claims / change management and lender-compliant documentation.
The EPC Director will ensure that the project is delivered safely, on time, within budget, in accordance with contractual obligations, Ukrainian construction requirements, international standards, lender requirements and the Company's quality expectations.
Main Responsibilities:
1. EPC Strategy & Project Delivery
- Build and lead the Company's EPC delivery model, including execution strategy, subcontracting approach, site organization and reporting lines.
- Lead the delivery of the 120 MW wind power plant from pre-construction preparation through construction, commissioning, take-over and handover to operations.
- Ensure that the project execution strategy is realistic, bankable and aligned with the requirements of IFIs/DFIs, lenders' technical advisers and owner's engineer.
- Coordinate all major EPC work packages, including roads, crane pads, foundations, cabling, substation, grid connection, OHL, SCADA/communications, WTG delivery and erection, testing and commissioning.
- Ensure clear ownership of interfaces between design, procurement, logistics, civil works, electrical works, WTG supplier, grid operator, owner's engineer and lenders' advisers.
2. Subcontractor & Package Management
- Lead the management of subcontractors and key service providers.
- Define scopes of work, technical requirements, deliverables, reporting obligations, interfaces and acceptance criteria for each subcontract package.
- Manage subcontractor performance against schedule, budget, quality, HSE and contractual obligations.
- Ensure timely resolution of interface issues, delays, claims, variations and non-conformities.
- Maintain strong commercial control over subcontractor payments, milestones, change orders, back-to-back obligations and claims exposure.
- Lead change management, including variation orders, claims, extensions of time, additional costs and mitigation measures.
- Work closely with legal, finance and project management teams to protect the company's contractual and commercial position.
3. Schedule, Budget & Controls
- Own the integrated project execution schedule and ensure proper planning, sequencing and monitoring of all construction activities.
- Monitor project budget, commitments, forecasts and cash flow in cooperation with finance and project controls teams.
- Identify delays, cost overruns and execution risks early and propose mitigation measures.
- Provide regular progress, cost, risk and decision reports to management, investors, lenders and other stakeholders.
4. HSE, ESG & Lender Compliance
- Ensure full implementation of HSE systems across all subcontractors and work packages.
- Lead a safety-first culture on site, with clear rules for inductions, permits, lifting operations, traffic management, working at height, LOTO, emergency response and incident reporting.
- Ensure compliance with environmental and social requirements, including biodiversity, archaeological supervision, community relations, waste management and land access requirements.
- Ensure that project execution complies with IFI/DFI environmental, social, health and safety requirements, including lender reporting and corrective action plans.
- Coordinate with ESG, HSE and environmental specialists to ensure proper documentation, monitoring and audit readiness.
Qualifications and professional experience:
- 10+ years of experience in EPC, construction management or project delivery of large infrastructure, energy or industrial projects (wind experience is preferable).
- Proven experience in wind power projects, high-voltage substations, grid infrastructure or utility-scale renewable energy projects.
- Strong experience managing subcontractors and multi-package construction projects.
- Experience with IFI/DFI-financed projects, lender requirements, owner's engineer processes, ESG/HSE standards and audit-ready documentation is highly preferred.
- Solid understanding of FIDIC/EPC contract structures, subcontract management, claims, variations and project controls.
- Knowledge of Ukrainian construction regulations, permitting, grid connection procedures and construction documentation requirements.
- Strong leadership, negotiation and decision-making skills.
- Ability to manage complex interfaces, pressure, uncertainty and tight deadlines.
- Strong command of Ukrainian and English. German is a plus.
- Proficiency with MS Project, Primavera or similar planning/project controls tools.
- Engineering, construction management or technical university degree is preferred.
